We totally miss the chance to directly name compassion fatigue that many of the MCU members are suffering from but we do discuss the symptoms. And ultimately the relationships that everyone has and how they are affected by the snap.

]]>Quick apology to begin with there might be some banging in the background, we did get rid of most of it but there is still some, I hope you can bear with us, during the episode.
So we had a lot of plans that fell through. But we did get to see some movies, of course we both saw Thor: Ragnarok, but Kat did not see Justice League, and Lea refuses to see The Last Jedi. She refuses to see any Star Wars movies.
There has been a lot of high power people who have been in the news lately due to sexual abuse allegations; one of them being a singer Melanie Martinez who was accused of raping her friend. We begin discussing the impact it has had on fans, as well as the importance of talking to younger fans about this before they read it on facebook or see it on youtube.
We get to discuss some of what we liked in each movie, as well as some of the familial aspects of the movies.
Happy Holidays from Geek Family Therapy and Happy New Year
]]>We are finishing the episodes on character alignment with of course EVIL… Lea and Kat also took the character alignment test and Kat is Neutral, and Lea is chaotic neutral. Go to this site and take the test yourself http://easydamus.com/alignmenttest.html
Lea explains why she couldn’t be a vampire, hint*** she can’t give up sushi.
]]>Lea and Kat discuss the neutral characters from Marvel and DC. Kat explains how a character’s alignment help her clients in discussing some of their past traumas utilizing a modality of narrative therapy in which she will have her clients externalize their problems from themselves by creating comic versions of themselves and personifying their issues in their comics to help them identify the true problem and its effects on their life.
Of course, Lea and Kat did take an alignment test which confirmed what everyone already knows; Kat is easy.
http://easydamus.com/alignmenttest.html
go check it out yourself and take the test.
]]>Kat and Leah got to interview Jason Porath the author and creator of Reject Princesses. http://www.rejectedprincesses.com/
Kat attempted to get the book on Friday from Jason at artist Alley and he had already sold out on Thursday night. By Friday night Harper-Collins had sold out of the book as well. Jason was very nice and offered to answer some questions for the podcast. The interview was during Sunday…. A notoriously busy day at NYCC due to the fact that it is still considered family day at the con. This is the day that people will normally bring their children so the amount of people is insane.
If you haven’t heard of Rejected Princesses, check out the sight. Or https://www.facebook.com/rejectedprincesses/ or search Tumblr for Rejected Princesses. You can buy the book from Amazon or Barnes & Noble as well it’s hard cover, it’s 384 pages, it’s not recommended for children, and the books go by rating, so the more graphic, the further in the back the story would be.
]]>Not that this is completely off what we would normally talk about but we are discussing Character Alignment. This episode focuses solely on the good character alignment. Kat used to play D&D frequently with her Best Friend as the DM and several other friends, playing for hours (usually from 7 pm to somewhere around 6 am) .
After the comic con episode GFT will record the next two episodes, and of course finally discuss the importance of character alignment within D&D and..

Code therapy is a 15 minute documentary that discusses depression. Discussing that depression is the second largest cause of disability in the world and then discussing apps that can be used to help those who are suffering from depression.
http://www.psychiatryadvisor.com/top-10-mental-health-apps/slideshow/2608/ . The top 10 mental health apps that are discussed during the podcast. Kat talks about her use of Breath 2 Relax and its use of diaphragmatic breathing (breathing into the belly as opposed to the chest) . Many of the other apps that are on the list express that they should be used with the help of a mental health professional, and Talkspace; an app that is supposed to make therapy more accessible, has even posted that they are not to be as a substitute for in person therapy.
On psych tech Josúe and Kelly discuss Woebot a CBT AI that runs with facebook messenger. I am not going to discuss it I’m just going to leave this link right here for you to listen to it when you can. https://www.psychtechpodcast.com/?powerpress_pinw=338-podcast

Do Wolverine, Tony Stark, and Bruce Wayne have PTSD? Using generic information on Wolverine, and Bruce Wayne…. and Iron Man 3 we attempt to see if these characters meet the criteria
]]>OMG Batman is a meta… Kat goes on a rant on how everyone says that Batman is the best super hero because he has no super powers (other than he’s super rich, doesn’t make him a hero), and now….. in the Suicide Squad, he is classified as a meta due to his exposure to Nth metal. He is classified as such from all of our favourite super bitch Amanda Waller.
BBC has announced that the new doctor is (drum roll please) Jodi Whitaker and Butt Hurt Nerd Boys (BHNB)everywhere lost their collective shit. The Doctor can’t have a vagina. I’m sorry in your real world where time traveling space aliens exist there has never been a female doctor. But guess what there has been female doctors for years. But as we discussed in the last episode, even when it comes to space aliens, it is important for people to find themselves. Not all women want to be swept off by a madman in a box, some want to be the MadWoman. They don’t want to cosplay the companion, or the gender bent version of the doctor (they still will) but they want to be the doctor. Now with Giant Hoodie.
Now I will give the writing for the past Doctor was kind of heavy handed with the “hints” that the Doctor will be a woman soon. Bill’s writing was great. But the same way many newb Whovian’s stated that Peter Capaldi is not their doctor because he wasn’t cute and goofy like Matt or sexy like David; that is the same as the BHNB (butt hurt nerd boys) now saying that Jodi is not their doctor, and they will boycott Doctor Who. For those who don’t know the incarnations and regenerations.
]]>Lea and Kat sat and discussed the importance of being able to find super hero’s or any comic character that look like us. The importance of being able to see that even though we are minorities that we can find someone to look up to even if they are make believe. In therapy we use pop figures (not really Funko Pops) to help get children who do not know how to verbally identify their emotions to at least begin with physical representation with characters such as Winnie the pooh or Kat’s favorites the emotes. (www.emotes.com), little action figure monsters that help children, identify, understand and express their emotions. Kat loves these toys. But with some of our older clients toys aren’t good enough Kat has utilized Comicspedia to help find comic books that will help clients express themselves by having similar situations the children might be going through. www.comicspedia.net Lastly Kat mentions Geek Therapy’s own data base they are still compiling, which when complete will have access to The Geek Therapy library can be found https://www.geektherapy.com/?s=library

]]>In fiction family of choice is often used to help create a family with people that they have more in common with, especially when the main character has developed some type of supernatural powers. The new family shares similar powers or secrets.

]]>But when you pick up the armor in any dungeon, it will look like a really cool breast plate, or chain mail pants and when you put it on it’s like a loincloth. Is this what guys are looking for?
Anyway these costumes are not practical. Women in comic books, anime, video games really do allow for more movement but other than that they do not allow for more protection. In comic books our super hero’s are dressed in belts and straps. Boys idolize these looks but do not women to actually dress like this. They would prefer women to be dressed like the movie version of Gamora. So fully clothed in real life and naked every other time. Women are made to fit roles that are forced on them in society. But when women follow the role and embraces it, she is ridiculed and demeaned. http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1216223-virgin-killing-sweater . This sweater was created in a meme from a cosplayer, and now has gone insane. Many cosplayers, have purchased it and done photoshoots in it. Of course there have been trolls who anonymously behind their computer screen safely tucked behind their laptops, they insult these cosplayers or degrade them. There are 155 million Americans who play games regularly and out of that, 48% of them are female. When approximately half of the gamers being female, it is still not ” safe” for female gamers. It’s not just small insults of being called a noob or loser, when a man knows a woman is playing games it is rape jokes and insulting their looks, even though they don’t know how they look. But, why would they think that a woman should be treated any different from their “naked” characters in a game.
This episode will discuss more of how the media continues to allow these
]]>Kat gets to gush about her new computer and software she is using to record and edit with (thanks Shannon.) Because new tech is always fun to talk about, and gush about, and get and play with.
Why are people so fascinated by watching bad things happen? As a society when there is a car accident we slow down to see what is going on, to see the chaos, the carnage, we pray that the people are okay while secretly hoping there is blood. WHY???? Daddy O Five of YouTube fame is the car wreck. People have stopped on his channel to watch him and his wife “prank” his children. All of the pranks have bordered on emotional and verbal abuse, where they curse at their children and call them names, things that we tell our children not to do to other children and here are grown adults doing it to their own children. This channel has over 700,000 followers and it took way too many videos for someone to finally say that this was not right. They have been interviewed by several different media outlets and finally issued a very heavily scripted apology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoYTdYRPPpw&t=20s
This family has posted videos clearly showing that their youngest child has emotion issues, where he has self harmed, and instead of getting him help they belittle him and punish him. the youngest also is suffering from encopresis or he is playing with his feces which is evidence of developmental regression. Again, with these signs the family did not seek out help but decided to ridicule him on video, in front of over 700K people.
Finally the biological mother has gotten custody of two of the children.

Listen to the rant and how the decisions can be made.
]]>This episode is very heavy and loaded with some history, some facts, and diagnostic criteria. This episode is also a little longer than we would normally want it to be, but again there is a lot of information that needed to be shared.
I hate to give more mention but I did quote Phillip Zimbardo’s Ted Talk: The Demise of Guys? https://www.ted.com/talks/zimchallenge Zimbardo believes that the boys are struggling educationally and financially due to their access to video games. This goes to basic psych 101 concept of Freud’s Id, Ego, and Super Ego. The id is where all desires and impulses are manifested. Zimbardo believes that due to video games and internet porn’s instant gratification boys are unwilling and unable to develop relationships with people they desire. Zimbardo also makes some claims that sound as if that now that video games are prevalent that boys and men are searching form more male companionship, but not wanting to gain intimate relationships with someone they desire.
We discuss addiction and it’s diagnosis from the DSM 5 as well the fact that Video Game Addiction is in section 3: Condition’s for Further Study, in this section is documented as Internet Gaming Disorder, which describes what criteria will be looking for to diagnose someone with this disorder as well as the studies that still need to be done to place the disorder in the next edition. The DSM states that they want to continue the studies with ages 12-20 year olds. With the 2016 video Game Statistics we find that the age of the average gamer is 35 years old.
You can see the study here: http://www.bigfishgames.com/blog/2016-video-game-statistics-and-trends/
Lastly, we discuss some of the horrible reasons why people believe that Video Game Addiction is a real diagnosis. Discussing Shawn Woolley who died by suicide and is believed to be due to playing Ever Quest, as well as many different people whose deaths are said to be caused to their many hours of playing video games.
